Robert Ashby

Since 1974, Robert Ashby has been working as a master pianist for ballet, modern and contemporary dance.

From 1977 to 1993, he worked as first pianist for Marika Besobrasova at the Académie Princesse Grace in Monte Carlo. Until 1994, he worked as a pianist at the American Ballet Theater in New York before moving to Zürich, Switzerland. Since then, he has been playing for ballet companies in Zurich, Basel and Lucerne, as well as for the Zürich Tanz Akademie and at numerous seminars organised by Danse Suisse, the Swiss association of dance professionals. In the course of his career, he has been working as an international guest pianist for many companies, including the Vienna State Opera and the Teatro alla Scala in Milan, as well as Oslo, Glasgow, Shanghai and Antwerp, among others.

Robert Ashby has also long been a piano accompanist specialised in the Martha Graham and Jose Limon methods. His previous experiences include playing the piano for professional classical singers and concerts, as well as for jazz performances.

Since 2018, he has been piano accompanist for classical classes and coaching sessions at the Prix de Lausanne.
